Realtors are Constantly Accused of Having an Agenda...I JUST WANNA GO FISHIN'!

I'm a bit frustrated and kinda shocked!

I am very interested in starting to fish again and am currently looking for a lake house for me and my family. I grew up on the lake and as a country girl...I like to fish!

That being said, I tried to join a Texas fishing site, FishingTX.com, but RodSmith, the sites Administrator, was extremely rude (see below) and accused me of trying to join only to advertise, I guess he saw the website in my signature! I was shocked!

If you are joining to read and provide fishing reports, please reply to this email and let me know. If you are only joining to advertise your Real Estate activity, your membership would be deleted anyway.

Wow! How rude! I had no intention of advertising.
My family and I are looking for a lake house and I wanted to read the reviews of Texas lakes. I grew up on Lake Bridgeport and don't know much about other lakes.
Delete my account anyway, I don't want to be a part of this any longer due to your rude response to my genuine interest!

Oh well...there are more sites about fishing than his!
And little does he know, ACTIVERAIN is the best place to advertise...even bad experiences! ;-)

LOOKING FOR GREAT MEXICAN IN NORTH TEXAS? VISIT PAPAGALLO'S IN CELINA!

Looking fo great Authentic Mexican Food in North DFW area? Visit PapaGallo's Mexican Grill in Celina, TX! You won't be disappointed!

Celina, TX, located in Collin County, is a quintessential Texas town with Western murals painted on the sides of old brick buildings, a water tower "Mayberry" type atmoshpere, charming old-fashioned town square and a population of approximately 5,200 people.

On the corner of W. Pecan street, Eddie Bell, owner of Bell Construction and busy dad of 3 girls, opened Celina's newest restaurant on Dec. 11, 2011 and it has been packed ever since.  Even though friends cautioned him about opening a restaurant in this economy, he didn't hesitate to make his dream be diminished. With the help of his mother and daughters, who also helped him come up with the name, Papa Gallo, which means Daddy Rooster, his dream quickly became a reality. “We took on the challenge,” Bell said, If you don't go after your dreams in life you'll never know if youwere able to accomplish it or not.”

I met Eddie several months ago when I listed his house for sale and met him at the restaurant several times to sign contracts, look at offers, etc. I immediately fell in love with the small town atmosphere, where neighbors see neighbors, hugs and handshakes are all around and EVERYONE knows Eddie!  Since I LOVE mexican food, I couldn't help but to sample many of the menu items (and of course a margarita)! I instantly became hooked! While I love all of the items, the tortilla soup is by far the best I have ever had! Now that the weather is cooler, I am looking forward to enjoying a dinner and live music on the beautiful open patio area!

Why go to Mexico when you get it in Celina!!

"My husband and I have been there a few times. The chips and salsa usually tell you what kind of meal you will get. Let me say I couldn't get enough of them. I kept asking for more and I was worried they were going to start charging me!! haha I love the rice. It doesn't taste like what all the other restuarants serve. Usually I leave it untouched, but in this case I was wondering how to get more. I ate the chicken enchiladas and they were DEEEELISHH!!! Another time I had the Chimichanga with chicken and it was AWESOME!! Another great dish is the Fajita Nachos. The meat is really good and flavorful. Ok, I told you I have been there quite a few times and plan to go many more. Oh yes, and let me not leave out the queso. My kids practically lick the bowl. I am so glad we have a great restuarant with a friendly feel in the area. Way worth the drive north!

GREAT PLACE

"I had the pleasure of going to the New restaurant in Celina a Papa Gallo's. We are so glad they are here. The owner is very friendly and cares about you and his food and is always open for your comments. It is new and exciting, the server are all very friendly, even if they were not our server for our table, they would come by and offer more tea/water. the food is great and the margarita were blue and wonderful. my husband had the swirl margaritas and my girlfriend had the strawberry margaritas and they were all wonderful. the server informed us of the new margaritas to come and the new items coming to the menu. im glad that this restaurant takes it's time to expand the menu, giving me a reason to come back and try new things. Anyone visiting Celina has to stop by PapaGallo's."

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!

"I heard about this new mexican restaurant in Celina and I had to try it out as I do all mexican restuarants. This was a GREAT experience!! The owner is so nice. Comes around to greet customers and chat with them. Makes sure they are taken care of. The Flautas are great and I didn't want to try anything else, but was persuaded to and the chicken enchiladas they were just as great. I will definitely be back this Friday night.

GO GREEN WITH DALLAS AREA RAPID TRANSIT

Big environmental concerns in Big D.

Dallas-Fort Worth is the fastest-growing, fourth-largest and fifth most-congested metro in the country. Being big certainly has its upside, but it also has its price. As population has increased, so has pollution. It will take small sacrifices on each of our parts to change this.

Bucking the trend.

One important part of the "go green" movement is public transit. DART helps commuters curb pollution. By riding instead of driving, commuters not only help the environment, they also limit wear and tear on their cars, lower auto expenses and eliminate the stress of stop-and-go driving.

Cleaning up the streets.

DART's clean fuel technology program is leading the way in the transit industry. The agency invested $25 million to cut bus emissions by 68% over the past decade. Also, up to 452 advanced technology buses will be delivered starting in 2013. These new buses will reduce current fleet NOx emissions - a precursor to ozone pollution - by at least 90%.

Turning a transit boom into a pollution bust.

DART recently expanded its HOV lane network to 84 miles. Designated for buses, vanpools, carpools with two or more occupants as well as motorcycles, these lanes reduce pollutant emissions by more than 5,000 pounds each weekday. Meanwhile, the new 28-mile DART Rail Green Line will reduce smog-causing vehicle emissions by more than 350 tons annually by 2025. Also, DART's Vanpool program now boasts more than 1,500 participants. Think of how many vehicles that takes off the road!

Partnering for a better metroplex.

DART is a founding member of the North Texas Clean Air Coalition, a group which encourages voluntary efforts to improve air quality in our region by educating, motivating and recognizing the business community. DART supports the NTCAC in many ways, from participating in the group's annual efforts like tryparkingit.com to informing businesses about the benefits of employer-sponsored commute options. Learn more about the NTCAC at workingforcleanair.org.

Fueling a cleaner tomorrow.

By bus or by train, DART is a greener way to go. DART Rail trains have the same emissions as a golf cart - which is next to nothing.  DART buses use 8.7% less energy per passenger mile than a typical car, while a train uses up to 23.7% less. DART also makes for more green in your wallet. According to the American Public Transit Association, the typical household using public transit saves more than $9,000 per year!

Putting the wheels on the bus.

Thanks to a $770,000 grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, DART has installed bike racks on more than 550 buses. Mounted on the front of the vehicle, these racks make it even easier for cyclists to take their bikes wherever they go. Also, this grant is funding additional bike lockers at rail stations and transit centers.

 Maintaining the environment

DART's maintenance department is committed to environmental awareness. For starters, DART recycles all antifreeze and cleaning solvents. All buses are washed using recycled water to reduce water usage. The water used is then diverted into a sanitary sewer system. In addition, DART utilizes a scrap metal recovery program to make the most of its resources.

This mindset goes beyond just the fleet. For example, DART has installed switches in its East Dallas offices so that lights automatically turn off in unoccupied workspaces. At its transit facilities, DART does not allow mowing on ozone alert days. Also, all lawnmowers must be 2002 models or newer in order to be compliant with EPA emission regulations.

DART abides by the water restrictions set forth by its member cities during summer months. The agency has upgraded its site irrigation controllers to models that provide environmentally-sensitive operation. The units are programmable and offer remote monitoring capability.

Finally, DART has planted many drought-tolerant plants in an effort to help conserve even more water during the hot Texas summers.

TEN SIMPLE STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO "GO GREEN."2. Refuel when it's cool: This reduces the potential for ozone formation. Also, never top off your tank and always ensure your gas cap seals properly.

1. Get it together: You can cut back on auto emissions by combining your errands into one sensible trip.
3.Maintain your car: Regular maintenance is a little-known way to cut back on pollution. It also helps your fuel economy.
4. Avoid excessive idling: To combat this, try driving during off-peak hours. Also, avoid construction areas and drive-thrus.
5. Watch for smoke: Black smoke means there is too much gas in the air-fuel mixture, while blue smoke indicates the engine is burning oil and too many hydrocarbons are being released.
6. See the light: Dashboard warning lights alert you of engine problems or other malfunctions, which may have an environmental impact. Be sure to have them checked out by a mechanic.
7. Check for leaks: Act quickly if you notice an air conditioner leak. Chloro-
fluorocarbons pose a threat to stratospheric ozone.
8. Note your mpg's: Pay attention to a loss in fuel economy as this usually signals an increase in emissions.
9. Try an electric shave: Using gas-powered lawn equipment for one hour causes as much pollution as driving 50 miles in a car!
10. Instead of driving your car on nights and weekends, take the bus, hop on a train, ride you rbike or there's a crazy idea - WALK! ;-)

Nascar Samsung Mobile 500 - April 2010 at Texas Motor Speedway!! Good times, as always!

Robert, Trey (my youngest) and I had a great time at the races this weekend...even while waited in the rain for the race tostart, just to hear it was cancelled!!

But on Monday, racing was finally under way and after a few hours of uneventful racing, we saw a nine-car pileup wreck that took out Tony Stewart, who took 100 percent of the blame, Carl Edwards, who accepted 50 percent of the blame and Jeff Gordon didn't blame anybody, but, expressed disappointment.  Juan Pablo Montoya, Clint Bowyer, Jamie McMurray, Joey Logano, Paul Menard and A.J. Allmendinger. Although we were glad no one was hurt, we were excited to see the wreck!  After all, swappin' paint is what we came to see!!

Congratulations to Denny Hamlin for winning the Samsung Mobile 500!   http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/othersports/2011649625_auto20.html

Rare Winter Storm Hits The DFW Area and The Kids Get Another "Snow Day"!

History is being made today in the Dallas Fort Worth area, as a rare snowstorm is blanketing area, as well as other parts of Texas, in bizarre weather today, Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010. 6 inches has already been recorded and we could see 10 inches before it's all over with! I think someone forgot to tell Mother Nature, THIS IS TEXAS! Sorry, didn't mean to yell! ;)

Some of the snow is sticking, and one to five inches of snow is possible for the DFW metroplex today, with even more snowfall and accumulation over night.

The snow closed most of the schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area today, including Prosper, and with the weather only expected to worsen as temperatures fall, schools are already posting closings for tomorrow, Friday February 12.

Although the kids will have to make up the missed days, my kids are making the most of another "snow day" this school year.

Beautiful night shot of the snow in front of the house

THINGS I'VE LEARNED...

I've learned...That no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I've learned...That it takes years to build up trust and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned...That it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned...That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned...That life is tough, but I'm TOUGHER!

I've learned...That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned...That learning to forgive takes practice.

I've learned...That biology has nothing to do with being a parent.

I've learned...That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned...That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!', makes my day.

I've learned...That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned...That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've learned...That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned...That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned...That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned...That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned...That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned...That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned...That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned...That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned...That your life can be changed by people who don't even know you.

I've learned.. That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned...That it isn't always enoughto be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I've learned...That I wish I could have told my Nana, my uncle John and my Grannie that I love them one more time before they passed away.

I've learned...That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

I've learned...That I still have A LOT to learn!

DART.org - *Dallas Area Rapid Transit*

I rode the DART train for the first time a few weeks ago to Victory Park for the Dallas Mavericks Game and I was very impressed! I have since taken the train to my office in Dallas and rode DART and TRE to Fort Worth.  The only downfall for me is that it doesn't come far enough north, but it soon will.

I plan on taking it more often now and if you are in the area, I highly recommend it!

Dallas Area Rapid Transit gets you around Dallas and 12 surrounding cities with modern public transit services and customer facilities tailored to make your trip fast, comfortable and economical. Our extensive network of DART Rail, Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and bus services moves more than 220,000 passengers per day across our 700-square-mile service area.

Ride the rails to more destinations and more savings

The DART Rail System provides fast, convenient service to work, shopping and entertainment destinations in Dallas, Garland, Plano and Richardson. Plus, our TRE commuter line links DART customers to DFW International Airport and downtown Fort Worth.

Free parking is available at most rail stations, and all are served by DART bus routes specially timed to make transfers between buses and trains quick and easy.

Popular shopping and entertainment destinations near DART Rail stations in Dallas include NorthPark Center and Upper Greenville Avenue (Park Lane Station), West Village (Cityplace Station), Mockingbird Station (Mockingbird Station), the Dallas Museum of Art (St. Paul Station), American Airlines Center (Victory Station), the entertaining West End Historic District (West End Station), Fair Park (Fair Park Station and MLK, Jr. Station), the Dallas Convention Center (Convention Center Station), and the Dallas Zoo (Dallas Zoo Station).

Popular destinations in surrounding cities include the Renaissance Hotel and the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts (Galatyn Park Station in Richardson); Downtown Plano, the ArtCentre of Plano and the Courtyard Theater (Downtown Plano Station); the Granville Arts Center (Downtown Garland Station); and Downtown Irving (South Irving Station).

Take the train to American Airlines Center

Whether you're headed to a concert, a Dallas Mavericks basketball game or a Dallas Stars showdown on the ice, ride DART Rail to events at American Airlines Center (AAC). Coming from Fort Worth or the Mid-Cities? The TRE is the ticket Monday through Saturday. Visit www.DART.org/Victory for details.

Fly us to DFW Airport or Dallas Love Field

The TRE gets you to and from DFW International Airport for a fraction of the cost of taxi fare or long-term parking. Just take it to CentrePort/DFW Airport Station and transfer to the DFW Airport bus serving airline terminals. Airport buses meet all trains, departing every 15 minutes Monday through Saturday. There is no Sunday service. Airport bus service between the rail station and the airport terminals is free. Visit www.DART.org/DFWAirport for details.

Ride bus Route 39 from Dallas Love Field to downtown Dallas' West Transfer Center seven days a week. Across the street is DART's West End Station. Visit www.DART.org/LoveField for details.

Experience exciting Fort Worth via the TRE

Downtown Fort Worth is now just about an hour's ride from Union Station in downtown Dallas via the TRE. Business commuters love the convenience - and if you're looking for a Saturday adventure, Cowtown is Wowtown! From Fort Worth's Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) or T&P Station it's a short bus ride to the bustling Sundance Square dining and entertainment district in the heart of the city, the historic Fort Worth Stockyards Old West district, or the famed museums in the city's Cultural District. TRE information is available at www.TrinityRailwayExpress.org.

Share the ride and save

If riding a DART bus or train doesn't fit your schedule, you can still save time and money in our carpool and vanpool programs. Our free RideShare computerized match list puts you in touch with other commuters with similar schedules and travel habits who want to share the ride. Details are available at www.DART.org/vanpool.

Plus, rush-hour carpoolers and vanpoolers qualify to use DART's 84-mile network of interim HOV lanes. DART operates HOV lanes on East R. L. Thornton Freeway (I-30) between Downtown Dallas and Northwest Drive; Stemmons Freeway (I-35) between LBJ Freeway (I-635) and Round Grove Road; LBJ Freeway between I-30 and Luna Road; I-35E/US 67 from Downtown Dallas to Camp Wisdom Road; I-30 (Tom Landry Highway) between S.H. 360 and Loop 12; and U.S. 75 between I-635 and Exchange Parkway.

November/December...I love this time of year!

I always love this time of year because the weather is turning colder and the holidays are approaching! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's always it gives us the opportunity to get together with friends and family, when throughout the year, we seem to busy to do so.  We started out this year with my parents coming down for the kids games on Halloween and them staying to help the kids carve pumpkins.

Robert's dad and Karen came down, as they always do in November and we had a great time, as usual.

.

I love the holidays because it reminds me of all the good times I had with my family when I was a kid, because of tradition and for all the great times and memories we have made and continue to make with my children.

We start out decorating our home with fall leaves and flowers and pumpkins and move on to overdoing it with Christmas decorations!  (Robert always teases me about have 20 boxes of decorations for Christmas and only one for every other holiday!)

Halloween is only fun because the kids love to dress up and my parents have joined us on Halloween since Reagan was a baby.

Thanksgiving is always special. When I was a kid, it always meant traveling to Stillwater, OK to be with my family there and family, from everywhere, would be there.  We talked, played, road dirt bikes, went to movies and just enjoyed being with each other.  Although we stopped that several years ago, Thanksgiving still means being with family, usually at my parents, aunt and uncles in Granbury, eating too much turkey, drinking too much ;),  playing with ALL the animals out there and watching football.

Christmas was amazing and is still my favorite holiday. My mom made it perfect every year and still does! We always celebrated on Christmas Day and continue to do so with my kids.  Christmas Day is much like Thanksgiving, but with TONS of presents!  We get together, eat too much, drink too much and just have a great time!

I'm looking forward to the holidays and being cozy with my family and seeing my kids' faces light up as they dig into the mounds of presents...priceless!

Prosper, TX USA

Prosper began as a settlement in 1846, known for its lush soil and ideal growing conditions for cotton crops. Four years later the two settlements of Rock Hill and Richland were developed, and lived side by side until the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad came through in 1914, and forced them to merge into what is known today as "Prosper".

The optimistic name choice was not without merit, as this community of 500 residents became a market center for area farmers and their plentiful bounty of corn and cotton crops. Even then, people knew there was something special about this North Texas area, but little did they know, Prosper would become the "Diamond" of Collin County between now and 2035.

Today, Prosper has come into its own with a population of approximatley 7,116; adding a resident per day and projecting a future population of 85,000 by year 2035. Although it is growing, at an alarming rate, Prosper has retained much of its small town charm and family values. Residents can relax in a setting far from the sounds of traffic and hustle and bustle of urban living. Yet, when the big city calls, access to the Metroplex is minutes away via Dallas North Tollway and Highway 380, Preston Road and Central Expressway.

Quick shopping needs are found in downtown Prosper or the Prosper Town Center, plus an abundance of choices located at the nearby Stonebriar Center, Frisco, Park & Preston in Plano, Legacy Town Center and Shops of Willowbend and The Dallas Galleria. One of the largest retail areas in Collin County will find its home along Hwy. 380, just outside of Prosper in the next few years.

Prosper is 9 miles long and 3 miles deep with Hwy. 380 as a Southern border and extending 9 miles along prime commercial land. The entire city of Prosper was master-planned with a variety of communities to suit everyone's needs and lifestyle.

Gentle Creek Estates is surrounding a 18 hole golf course. 1/5-2 acre lots. Golf course lot available. Home Builders: Stonegate Custom Homes, Kings Hollow, Dave R.Williams and Alford. Price range from $600K-$900K.

Whitley Place borders an extensive greenbelt that winds through the community. Residents can access it via the strategically placed walking paths and parks. Whitley Place also has its own community pool and lake pavilion. Home prices range from the $300s to $1.5 million.

Whispering Farms provides the ultimate setting for horse and nature lovers. This 300 acre planned community boasts oversized lots, lakes, trails, parks, and a world-class equestrian center. Elegant, luxury homes start from the $500s.

At Lakes of Prosper, residents can obtain a home in the $230s with upgraded amenities, sports center, playground, pool, splash park and hiking/biking trails.

Schools here are part of the Prosper ISD, a recognized district with many exemplary campuses. With a low student-teacher ratio of 12:1, it's no wonder Prosper ISD students achieve higher than average scores that state averages. A school population growth of about 700 students during the 2008/09 year has justified the addition of a new school.

In August 2009, Prosper welcomed the modern American high school, Texas style. Prosper High School is a $113.5 million, 590,000-square-foot behemoth, complete with a medical tech lab, a restaurant-worthy kitchen, a greenhouse, a broadcast studio and, of course, an indoor football practice facility. http://www.prosper-isd.net.

Prosper has come a long way since its early beginnings as a farm community, but its residents have still maintained a sense of pride in their town, and the desire to preserve its historic legacy and small town values.

Dallas police ticketed 39 drivers in 3 years for not speaking English...

How to Say, "You're Being Ticketed for Not Speaking English" in Spanish?

As a native Texas, I've heard my fair share on the subject, but this is unreal!  I, personally learned the Spanish language to help educate those that want to learn English, and by my experience, most Spanish speaking individuals who live in the US, truly want to learn the language AND I love to travel to Mexico! ;)!  I will try my hardest, not to get in a war of words based on my beliefs on the subject and hard working, law abiding hispanic citizens.

That being said...here it goes...

"Dallas police wrongly ticketed at least 39 drivers for not speaking English over the last three years, Police Chief David Kunkle announced Friday while promising to investigate all officers involved in the cases for dereliction of duty.

"The case that led to the discovery of all the others occurred Oct. 2, when Ernestina Mondragon was stopped for making an illegal U-turn in the White Rock area. Rookie Officer Gary Bromley cited Mondragon for three violations: disregarding a traffic control device, failure to present a driver's license and "non-English speaking driver."

Attorney Domingo Garcia said he has been hired to represent the Mondragon family.  "The issue has nothing to do with whether people should learn English or not. I believe they should," Garcia said. "It's about not following the law and issuing citations against a law that doesn't exist, against a fairly voiceless and helpless population." Beyond potential legal problems, some said the tickets send a troubling message to Hispanics.

"It's the principle of the matter that there are police officers out there representing our city who actually think that it's a crime not to speak English," said Brenda Reyes, a political consultant and member of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

Kunkle, who apologized repeatedly, said he recognized the incidents probably would damage the department's relationship with the Hispanic community.

"When we deal with crime victims ... our interest is not their immigration status," Kunkle said. "It's not something that we concern ourselves about. We want to serve all people."
